About Data Security
In an MMS configuration, the database is the vital component for recovering from a catastrophic event. The database contains the current state of every volume and tape cartridge in every library. To recover without data loss, you must take the following steps to protect the database and, if necessary, to restore the database:
- Control physical access to the system that runs the database.
- Control user access to the database's data using passwords, roles, and SSL authentication.
- Create a backup of the database routinely.
- Separate the database backup from the current database.
Many types of error conditions such as hardware failures in the library or power failures are handled gracefully and do not affect the MM database.
