The SolarisTM CIFS client enables you to mount shares from CIFS servers. File sharing is done by using the Common Internet File System (CIFS)/Server Message Block (SMB) protocol, which is the natural file-sharing protocol used by Windows systems. The CIFS/SMB protocol has also been implemented natively as the Solaris CIFS service and as the Samba service for UNIX and Linux systems. For more information about the Solaris CIFS service and the Solaris CIFS client, see Solaris CIFS Administration Guide.
